Disturbing footage surfaced following Michigan‘s 29-7 victory over Michigan State of multiple Spartans players attacking two Wolverines players in the shared tunnel after the game. Since the incident, Michigan State has suspended players Tank BrownKhary CrumpAngelo Grose and Zion Young for their involvement in the brawl, and Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh identified his players Gemon Green and Ja’Den McBurrows who both sustained injuries.

Harbaugh did not specify the nature of the injuries but according to ESPN reporter Tom VanHaaren Green was struck in the face, back, and shoulder by a helmet in the altercation. VanHaaren obtained the information through a conversation with Green’s father, who also said that his family planned on pressing charges against those involved.

Today Sports Illustrated’s Pat Forde reported that Green has retained noted attorney Tom Mars to assist in filing charges and recouping money damages after the alleged assault. Forde also released a statement made by Mars that called for severe punishment of the participating members of Michigan State’s team and compensation for Greene for his injuries suffered.

Mars stated via text message, “When college football players brutally attack a member of the opposing team with their helmets, resulting in the player suffering a concussion and other injuries, an apology won’t suffice. There has to be severe consequences for this kind of misconduct. Not only does Gemon Green deserve to be compensated for his injuries. Severe consequences in this case will deter others who might think they can get away with brutally beating an opposing player and only get a slap on the wrist. I’ve got news for the MSU players who did this to Gemon. They are going to feel the full wrath of the law.”

The University of Michigan Police has already begun investigating the altercation, reviewing the footage and investigating the alleged assault. And now with legal involvement as well beginning to materialize, it’s hard to believe that the suspension handed down to the Michigan State players involved will be the only consequences they face in the future.

Jim Harbaugh not buying rivalry as excuse for brawl with Michigan State

This past weekend’s Michigan vs. Michigan State game produced quite a horrifying scene as a band of Spartans wailed on one Wolverine player outside the locker rooms afterwards. The fallout has been extreme and the Michigan player even pressed charges while Michigan State is left to figure out how to discipline this disaster.

Of course, Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh was asked about the event as well. One reporter wanted to know if Harbaugh thought the rivalry had anything to do with it. To which he responded quickly and adamantly.

“No I don’t. I don’t buy any excuse that’s going to be laid off on the rivalry for the tunnel or any other thing that somebody could possibly blame. These are the actions of these individuals and they need to be accountable for them.”

Sounds like Harbaugh believes the Spartans players are deserving of whatever punishments come their way. This was a very serious attack on one of Harbaugh’s players, and he’s not taking it lightly.
