Michigan DL Owen Wafle enters the NCAA Transfer Portal
Michigan DL Owen Wafle has entered his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal. On3’s Pete Nakos confirmed the news on Thursday.
Wafle did not appear in any games for the Wolverines this season as a true freshman in Ann Arbor. He will have four years of eligibility wherever he heads to next, though, after redshirting with no games played.
Wafle, a native of Princeton, New Jersey, played high school football at Hun School. He was the No. 466 overall recruit there as a three-star prospect in the 2024 cycle. He also rated as a top 50 defensive lineman in the class and a top 10 player out of the state. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Now, Wafle is the 23rd departure for the maize & blue in the portal during this cycle. Only eight of those are from their defense. Nine of those have then since committed to programs elsewhere.

Michigan has then added eight transfers of their own in the portal. Half of those are defensive additions from the SEC in DL Damon Payne (Alabama), LB Troy Bowles (Georgia), and twins in DB T.J. Metcalf and CB Tevis Metcalf (Arkansas). They then join RB Justice Haynes (Alabama), WR Donaven McCulley (Indiana), QB Mikey Keene (Fresno State), and IOL Brady Norton (Cal Poly).
