Michigan DL Reece Atteberry enters the NCAA Transfer Portal
Michigan defensive tackle Reece Atteberry has entered the transfer portal. Atteberry spent four seasons with the Wolverines, making 26 appearances.
Atteberry appeared in 14 games in the 2023 campaign, including seven appearances on the defensive line. He made three tackles to earn his fourth varsity letter. In his first three seasons with the program, Atteberry primarily played on the team’s offensive line.
Reece Atteberry played high school football at Eaglecrest (CO), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 416 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
With Atteberry’s help, Michigan boasted the No. 1 defense in the country this season, only allowing 247 opponent yards per game. Additionally, Michigan’s defense constantly caused issues in the backfield, tallying 39 sacks in the 2023 campaign.
Early in the season, Michigan graduate student Cam Goode praised Atteberry’s development.
“He’s somebody who’s transitioned from the OL to the DL. And from the first day he got there, he’s showing that he’s gonna be a problem,” Goode said. “He got on that bus being an offensive guard during camp and then transitioning. I’m so proud of Reece and his work ethic. He just puts his head down and he goes.”
Atteberry is the 10th player from Michigan to enter the transfer portal. The program has only added three players in the transfer portal, earning the No. 33 spot in the On3 Transfer Portal Team Rankings.

A new era in Michigan
Roster turnover was expected after head coach Jim Harbaugh left the program to become the next head coach for the Los Angeles Chargers. Michigan didn’t wait long to name former offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore the team’s next head coach.
While Michigan will look different next season, Moore is excited to lead the program.
“I have been preparing my entire coaching career for this opportunity and I can’t think of a better place to be head coach than at the University of Michigan,” Moore said. “We will do everything each day as a TEAM to continue the legacy of championship football that has been played at Michigan for the past 144 years. Our standards will not change.
“We will be a smart, tough, dependable, relentless, and enthusiastic championship-level team that loves football and plays with passion for the game, the winged helmet and each other. We will also continue to achieve excellence off the field, in the classroom and in our communities. I am excited to start working in this new role with our players, coaches and staff.”
