Michigan and Hawaii had to wait longer than expected to start their Week 2 game on Saturday. They now have an idea of when it will get underway.

The Wolverines announced a new kickoff time of approximately 9 p.m. ET, signaling the end of the weather delay. Gates will reopen to the stadium around 8:30 and kickoff will be 30 minutes after that. The game was originally supposed to kick off at 8 p.m. ET, but lightning in the area forced fans to leave the bowl and the kickoff time to get pushed back.

Michigan Athletics released a statement on its Twitter at 6:49 p.m. ET initially telling fans to take shelter on the concourse before eventually declaring a delayed start time.

“Lightning has been detected within 10 miles,” the statement read. “Spectators already in the stadium, please clear the field/seating bowl. Entry gates will be closed for a minimum of 30 minutes. Seek shelter under the concourse. Shelter locations include the ITC and Crisler Center.”

The contest against Hawaii is set to be the second of three acts in the ongoing quarterback drama for Michigan. Cade McNamara got the start in Week 1 against Colorado State and J.J. McCarthy is slated to be the starter against Hawaii. A strong performance against the Rainbow Warriors could seal the starting gig in McCarthy’s favor ahead of a Week 3 game against UConn.

The Wolverines are heavy favorites against Hawaii, closing as 53-point favorites in the matchup, according to VegasInsider.

Michigan is coming off a dominant 51-7 win over Colorado State in Week 1 at The Big House that also saw a big performance from McCarthy in limited action. Hawaii, meanwhile, suffered a 49-17 loss at Western Kentucky, just one week after losing to Vanderbilt at home in Week 0.
