Michigan guard Tre Donaldson enters NCAA Transfer Portal

Michigan guard Tre Donaldson has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned. He only spent one season with the Wolverines after transferring in from Auburn ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.
Donaldson started in all 37 of Michigan’s games this season. He averaged 11.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 31.1 minutes per game while shooting 43.3% from the field and 37.5% from beyond the arc. Donaldson’s points, rebounds and assists were career-highs this season.
Donaldson had his best performance of the season in Michigan’s 94-75 blowout win over UCLA on Jan. 7. The Bruins were ranked No. 22 in the country at the time. In the victory, Donaldson tallied a season-high 20 points, six rebounds and seven assists on 6-10 shooting from 3-point range.
Unfortunately for Michigan, Donaldson didn’t find a similar shooting rhythm in the NCAA Tournament. He scored just five points on 2-9 shooting in the Wolverines’ season-ending loss against Auburn in the Sweet Sixteen. Despite Donaldson’s uncharacteristically quiet performance, he’s not a player who shies away from big moments.
”This is who I am. My teammates are trusting me and my ability to make shots and it is just it’s great. My confidence is great. This is the best basketball I’ve played in my life,” Donaldson said after Michigan’s win over Texas A&M in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
“When it’s time to make big plays, when the opportunity presents itself, I just want to attack it as best as possible if it’s presenting itself to me. I want my teammates to do the same thing.”

Donaldson spent two seasons at Auburn before transferring to Michigan. He played a relatively small role during his freshman campaign but made 10 starts and averaged 19.6 minutes per game in his sophomore season.
Tre Donaldson played high school basketball at Florida State University High School (FL), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 127 overall player and No. 22 point guard in the 2022 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Now, Tre Donaldson will look to reach new heights in his final year of eligibility. Michigan head coach Dusty May isn’t unfamiliar with revamping his roster via the transfer portal. Last offseason, the Wolverines added six players through the portal after losing five players to it.
