Michigan infielder Mitch Voit apologizes for fake cocaine celebration

Michigan infielder Mitch Voit has issued an apology for what he deemed an “immature” celebration Sunday against USC. The incident occurred in the bottom of the second inning after Voit hit a three-RBI triple to give the Wolverines a 5-0 lead.
As he arrived at third base, he kneeled down and pretended to snort the chalk that made up the baseline. It wasn’t difficult for those watching to put together what he was aiming for, as many pointed out that he appeared to be mimicking snoring a line of cocaine. He took to X, formerly Twitter, on Monday morning to address the celebration.
“I would like to apologize for my actions on third base yesterday,” he wrote. “I made an immature decision in the heat of the moment. The gesture I made does not reflect my character, the household I was raised in, or the block M that I represent in any kind of way. I take full responsibility for what I did, and I am truly sorry for all those I have negatively impacted by doing this.”
Voit finished the day 3-for-3 at the plate with four total RBI. Michigan coasted to an 11-0 run-rule victory to avoid being swept in the weekend series.

Voit is in his third season with the Wolverines and has a career-high batting average of .451. The triple Sunday was his first of the year and he also have five home runs.
He certainly had every reason to celebrate, but it appears he now regrets the manner in which he did so. Regardless, he’ll look to move on and continue what has been arguably the best season of his college career.
Michigan improved to 11-8 on the season with the win against USC. Next up for the Wolverines is a game against Western Michigan on Tuesday.
