Michigan LB Joey Velazquez enters the NCAA Transfer Portal

Michigan linebacker Joey Velazquez has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned.

Velazquez entered for both football and baseball. He did not appear in a football game for the Wolverines in 2023.

During his time at Michigan, Joey Velazquez appeared in 17 games and recorded three tackles.

He signed with the Wolverines out of St. Francis De Sales High School in Columbus, Ohio. Velazquez made 101 tackles, including 21 tackles for loss, as a senior in high school. He also rushed for 817 yards and 13 touchdowns.

In addition to being a linebacker for the Wolverines, Velazquez also was a part of the baseball program.

He appeared in 48 games, with 38 starts this past season and hit .245 with four home runs and 22 RBIs. As a junior in 2022, he started 25 games, hitting .277 with five homers and 21 RBIs.

Velazquez helped the Michigan baseball program to a Big Ten Tournament title and two NCAA Regionals.

It remains to be seen what sport he will play at his next stop.
