Michigan is parting ways with linebackers coach George Helow, per Bruce Feldman of FOX and The Athletic.

Feldman tweeted the news on Thursday, revealing it was a mutual agreement between Helow and the Wolverines to move in a different direction.

“SOURCE: Michigan and Wolverines LB coach George Helow have mutually agreed to part ways to pursue other opportunities,” tweeted Feldman. “Helow who arrived in 2021, helped UM rank in the Top 15 in yards per play both YRs and developed Junior Colson into Freshman All-American and an All-Big Ten LB.”

Before Michigan, Helow spent time at other programs such as Colorado State, Georgia and Florida State. He began his coaching career in 2012 as a defensive intern at the University of Alabama.

Now, George Helow and Michigan will go their separate ways, following two College Football Playoff appearances and two Big Ten titles.

Michigan Wolverines hire Chris Partridge as assistant coach

Meanwhile, Michigan hired former Ole Miss defensive coordinator Chris Partridge as an assistant earlier this offseason, per On3’s Matt Zenitz.

Partridge is no stranger to Michigan. The defensive coach worked at the school from 2015-19 under Jim Harbaugh.

Now, the two reunite in Ann Arbor. Partridge was replaced at Ole Miss by former Alabama defensive coordinator Pete Golding.

Partridge coached at Paramus Catholic (N.J.) from 2003-04 and then Lafayette in 2005. He also coached at The Citadel from 2006-07.

Partridge rejoined Paramus Catholic in 2010 as the head coach until after the 2014 season, when he joined Michigan.

Michigan went 13-1 last season and won the Big Ten for the second consecutive season. However, the Wolverines lost to TCU in the College Football Playoff Semifinals.
