Argyle (Texas) interior offensive lineman Riley Van Poppel picked up an offer Wednesday from Michigan.

On3 ranks him significantly higher at No. 135 and as the No. 10 interior offensive lineman in the 2023 On300 ranking.

The Industry Comparison Tool shows On3 is the only major recruiting media company to have Van Poppel as a four-star recruit.

He is the No. 670 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power explained why On3 is higher on Van Poppel than the rest of the industry earlier this year.

“Similar to Terrance Green, Riley Van Poppel is a high school defensive lineman with considerable long-term upside along the offensive front,” Power said. “The son of former Major League pitcher Todd Van Poppel pairs a developmental frame at 6-foot-4, 270 pounds with good length (80-inch wing-span) along with plus athleticism and strength. We expect the Argyle (Texas) High standout to approach or eclipse a 50-foot shot put throw this spring. Van Poppel holds offers from the likes of Nebraska, Vandrbilt, TCU, Colorado, California, Houston, SMU and Washington.”

Van Poppel currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $8.5k. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
