Paul Finebaum walks back comments on if a Michigan national championship will be tainted
It looks like Paul Finebaum will tip his cap to Michigan and Jim Harbaugh should the Wolverines win the national title next week.
After beating Alabama fair and square, the Wolverines have Washington left in their path. In what will be a battle of two undefeated teams, Michigan would certainly earn its national title with a win in Houston,
Finebaum was asked if a Michigan national championship should have an asterisk.
“I don’t think so,” Finebaum said on Get Up. “And I know what I said and I know what many others said …College football right now, it is such a mess. And while a lot of us find what we believe the case to be here, to be repugnant, almost everything about college football right now is repugnant.
“So I think Michigan if they win, they’ll hoist the trophy. There’ll be haters out there, but most people I think are gonna go ‘congratulations, you are the best team.’”
Former Michigan standout Taylor Lewan joined the program as well and said any criticism towards the Wolverines at this point is just sour grapes.
“I’d say you know people love to punch up, that’s what I would say,” Lewan said. “When you look at when all these allegations came out, it was before Penn State, it was before Ohio State, it was before the Big Ten championship and it was before Alabama. If you are cheating, and people say ‘hey, this guy might be cheating,’ you’re not gonna go ‘let’s just keep cheating. Hopefully they won’t find out.’”

The path to the championship game is clear
Lewan made the case Michigan was good enough to win every game this season regardless of an alleged advantage with sign stealing.
“They would have won all those other games, no problem, all of them no problem,” Lewan said. “So when you go to these big time games, where Penn State’s going to beat them in Penn State and Ohio State’s going to beat them … and then you go against Alabama who everybody’s finding himself which is why I was clapping brother because I love the fact, love the fact that you’re talking me and laying down the sword.
“And you’re understanding that there’s nothing here. Like allegations are not at the end of this Michigan if they win, they’re the best team in college football and deserve to have the national championship.”
Especially going up against an offense like Washington’s, Michigan would certainly deserve the title if it wins one more game this season to finish on top.
