Michigan running back Hassan Haskins exits Capital One Orange Bowl early
Friday night only kept getting worse and worse for Michigan fans. Their star running back, Hassan Haskins got injured and headed to the locker room before the game was over, according to a writer for the Detroit News. The star tailback was in and out of the game for Michigan, but it appeared that his night was done.
Before he exited the game, Haskins had nine carries for 39 rushing yards and no touchdowns. The Georgia defense has simply dominated this game across the board and Michigan simply couldn’t get anything going on offense. Cade McNamara threw two interceptions to Georgia defensive back Derion Kendrick.
Georgia won the game 34-11 in a thorough domination of the Wolverines in every way, shape, and form. Freshman running back Donovan Edwards got some playing time in Haskins’ absence in the game.
Haskins had an incredible year in 2021, rushing 261 times for 1,288 yards and 20 touchdowns. It’ll be interesting to see where he ends up in the NFL, as he’ll be one of the top running back prospects in the 2022 NFL Draft.
While it was a rough way for his college football career to come to a close, Haskins and his teammate Blake Corum formed one of the most dynamic backfields in Michigan football history. Corum rushed 141 times for 939 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns in the regular season. Simply put, they’ll go down as one of the best backfields in college football history.

It wasn’t the ending that Michigan fans had hoped for, but before the Orange Bowl, the 2021 season was full of incredible memories. The play-calling by Josh Gattis against Iowa in the Big Ten Championship Game was one of the most beautifully orchestrated gameplans of the 2021 season, by any team.
The performance by their offensive line in the Ohio State-Michigan game was also remarkably impressive. There’s plenty to build from the 2021 season for Michigan and while the game against Georgia wasn’t pretty, Georgia was just the better than them in a lot of ways.
It was an incredible season for Michigan football, and their fans, players, and coaches shouldn’t forget that.
