A longtime Michigan figure won’t be returning to Ann Arbor in 2024, as Mike Hart isn’t going to be part of Sherrone Moore’s staff.
According to Chris Balas of The Wolverine, the former Michigan ball carrier turned running backs coach isn’t slated to return to the Wolverines for 2024. The news was first reported on Friday afternoon, surprising many of the team’s faithful fans.
“BREAKING: Michigan running backs coach Mike Hart won’t return to U-M in 2024, per @Balas_Wolverine,” The Wolverine’s official X account posted.
Hart has been with the program as an assistant since 2021, and even served as the team’s interim head coach for a game last season. As he moves on from the Wolverines now, at least he can hold his head high after helping to deliver a national title to the Wolverines.
We’ll see what’s next for Mike Hart, but it’s evident he’ll be revered in Ann Arbor now and into the future. It’s a surprising development, but Sherrone Moore has the keys to the car now, and we’ll see where he decides to move the program moving forward.

Moreover, Michigan underwent a makeover this offseason. Head coach Jim Harbaugh accepted an offer to become the Los Angeles Chargers’ head coach. He took multiple Michigan staffers with him, including defensive coordinator Jesse Minter.
Michigan’s losses on the staff is only the start of the team’s concerns. The program has an event-record 18 players in the NFL Combine. Additionally, eleven players have entered the transfer portal.

Despite the setbacks, new Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore isn’t afraid. In fact, he believes Michigan will bounce back just like the many years prior.
“We’re just going to work,” Moore said during an appearance at the NFL Network. “We’re not going to say much. We’re just going to let the results and everything [speak for themselves] on the field. And just keep going to work.
“We’re a blue-collar type program that we’re not going to open our mouths and talk. We’re just gonna go to work and then show what we can do when it comes time in September.”
Alas, time will tell if Sherrone Moore is able to bring Michigan together, but the pressure will be on him from the jump in Ann Arbor.
