Michigan sign-stealing scandal: Paul Finebaum predicts multi-game suspension for Jim Harbaugh
The clock is ticking around the Big Ten as everyone waits on pins and needles to see how Tony Petitti and the conference may elect to deal with the sign-stealing investigation at Michigan. Regardless, though, Paul Finebaum feels like it’s only a matter of time now.
Finebaum made his prediction for what’s going to happen next during a segment on ‘Get Up’ on Thursday. In his opinion, the next domino will be a suspension of Jim Harbaugh. The timing of the matchup between No. 3 Michigan and No. 10 Penn State may complicate that decision. Nonetheless, that’s the direction he believes that the story is headed in.
“I think what’s going to happen at some point, and nobody can guess when? I think Petitti is going to suspend Jim Harbaugh for a couple of games,” Finebaum said.
“He may want to wait until the week plays out,” continued Finebaum. “I think’s he’s in a tough spot, whether he’s disrupting one of his own teams in one of its biggest games of the year. But I think it’s coming and I think it’s happening.”
Finebaum also added that any legal response from the Wolverines would likely be a moot point. With how everything is unfolding, someone he spoke with suggested that there’s just not enough ground to stand on for that to be an option.
“I talked to a legal scholar yestersay? Michigan was talking about filing a temporary injunction – they’re not going to get it,” said Finebaum. “They simply don’t have the information. It’s too big of a mountain to climb. So they’re going to have to watch this play out without going to court.”
With the ebbs and flows of how this storyline has taken shape from the begging, there really is no telling what could be coming up next. Still, to Finebaum, the next move will be one against Harbaugh by the Big Ten – a move that those in Ann Arbor may not be able to do much about.
“I think Michigan will raise cane, they’ll scream and holler, and I don’t think anybody is going to listen,” said Finebaum.

Finebaum: ‘I’d frankly put an asterisk by Michigan if they win the national championship’
Michigan is currently in the middle of a sign-stealing scandal. At the same time, the Wolverines are one of the best teams in college football and are on the hunt for a Big Ten title and a national championship this season.
While debating the scandal on ‘Get Up’, Michigan’s success after the sign-stealing allegedly began, compared to before it started, became a topic of conversation. That’s when analyst Paul Finebaum explained that he thinks why he thinks this would all taint a Michigan title.
“I don’t think it’s coincidental,” Finebaum said. “I think it’s exactly what you see. When this started? He started winning again.”
The question, for many, is what kind of impact that scouting and sign-stealing actually had. For Finebaum, those things had a massive impact.
“Do I think it would be tainted? Yes, I do in the strongest possible language. I’d frankly put an asterisk by Michigan if they win the national championship. It will be that bogus based on what I believe
