Michigan trending for coveted 4-star WR Gatlin Bair
Burley (Idaho) Senior four-star wide receiver Gatlin Bair backed off his commitment to Boise State over the weekend after the coaching upheaval in the Broncos’ program.
The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder committed to the Broncos over Michigan and a handful of other schools, but after his decommitment, he is focused on only the Wolverines and Oregon.
Last month, he visited both the Ducks and Wolverines for games. And next week, he will host both for in-home visits, he told On3’s Chad Simmons. But heading into those visits, it’s Michigan who holds a substantial advantage in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).
Following updated predictions from around the recruiting industry, the Wolverines hold an 81.5 percent chance of securing his commitment.
Michigan has never given up on a potential flip
According to Simmons’ earlier reporting, Michigan has been the program talked about the most with Bair over the past few weeks.
“Michigan is viewed as the bigger threat to the Broncos at this stage,” On3’s Chad Simmons wrote before his U-M visit. “Boise State is the home state school for the four-star wide receiver out of Burley. When Bair committed, Michigan was right there, and if he makes it to the Big House this weekend, this race could get a little more interesting.

Bair is the No. 41 overall prospect and No. 10 wideout in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the top-ranked player in Idaho.
In addition to being a star on the football field, Bair is also an elite track athlete. This spring, he recorded the second-fastest 100-meter dash time in the country at the high school level, running a scorching 10.15.
Gatlin Bair Scouting Summary
On3’s Scouting and Rankings team writes this about him as a prospect:
“One of the top overall athletes in the 2024 cycle who is the nation’s fastest football prospect on the track. Has unverified size, listed at around 6-foot-2, 180 pounds. Looks like the nation’s fastest football prospect during his junior track season. Consistently ran scintillating times. Won the state title in the 100 and 200 meters with remarkable 10.15 second and 20.56 second marks. Transfers that top end speed to the gridiron. Shows the ability to blow by corners as a deep threat on vertical routes. Also flashes speed after the catch with the ball in his hands. Eliminates angles and beats defenders to the edge. Also a dangerous return man. Works on the outside and over the middle of the field.
… Can track the ball over his shoulder. Finished his junior season with 73 catches for 1,073 yards and 18 touchdowns. Shows the considerable twitch and bounce on the basketball court where his above-the-rim athleticism shows on alley oops and dunks in transition. Can improve his fluidity and polish as a route-runner as well as his comfort as a pass catcher. Averaged 14.7 yards per catch, which is on the low end among blue-chip receivers and top draft picks, especially considering his weaker than average competition. Reportedly plans to take an LDS mission following high school, postponing his college enrollment for two years.”
