Michigan wide receiver Jake Thaw enters NCAA Transfer Portal
Michigan wide receiver Jake Thaw entered the transfer portal Wednesday morning, On3 has learned. He spent four years with the Wolverines and fielded punts on the most recent team.
Thaw was one of Michigan’s primary punt returners this season and caught 16 punts where he was able to go for a return. In those 16 tries, Thaw racked up 101 total return yards and averaged 6.3 yards per return. Unfortunately, he failed to reach the end zone on any of them.
Jake Thaw’s most noteworthy punt return came in the Rose Bowl CFP semifinal game against Alabama. Late in the fourth quarter, the Crimson Tide boomed a punt back to the Wolverines and Thaw was back to catch it. Well, as the ball came soaring down towards the five-yard line, rather than move out of the way and allow it to likely bounce through the end zone for a touchback, Thaw tried to field it.
Instead of making the clean catch, he muffed it completely and had to scramble back towards his own end zone to grab the ball before it became either a safety or a touchdown for Alabama. However, Thaw did wind up hustling back to land on the ball just before it crossed the plane, saving his team from disaster but setting up the offense in an undesirable situation.
