Michigan Wolverines: 2024 commit breakdown
As Michigan seeks College Football Playoff supremacy, Jim Harbaugh and Co. are after another top-notch recruiting class this cycle.
As of Dec. 14, Michigan currently has 26 commitments, 12 of whom are projected to play offense, while 14 are expected to play on the defensive side of the ball.
The Wolverines’ class checks in at No. 16 in the nation and No. 4 in the Big Ten, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Ranking.
Michigan Class Breakdown
Michigan’s class consists of 14 four-stars and 12 three-star prospects. The class is headlined by three top-100 pledges: Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller four-star running back Jordan Marshall, Charlotte Providence Day four-star quarterback Jadyn Davis and Kansas City (Mo.) Rockhurst four-star offensive tackle Andrew Sprague.
Four additional top-250 recruits are committed to Harbaugh and the Wolverines: Rochester (Mich.) Adams four-star tight end Brady Prieskorn, Austin (Texas) Vandegrift four-star OT Blake Frazier, Nappanee (Ind.) Northwood four-star cornerback Jo’Ziah Edmond and Bellevue (Wash.) four-star TE Hogan Hansen.
Four-star and five-star prospects are rated as ‘blue-chip’ prospects — Michigan’s class sits at No. 18 nationally in blue-chip percentage at 53.85%. The average distance of a Michigan recruit’s hometown to Ann Arbor is 472.6 miles and just 12% of the class hails from the state of Michigan.
Top Commit: RB Jordan Marshall
The 5-foot-10.5, 200-pound Marshall is the highest-ranked overall and offensive commitment for the Wolverines this cycle, ranking as the nation’s No. 80 overall prospect and No. 4 tailback. He committed to Michigan on March 21.
On3’s Scouting and Rankings team writes this about him as a prospect:
“Well-rounded running back with few holes in his game. Has a developed, stout build at over 5-foot-10.5, 200 pounds. Registers as a plus athlete on the track with marked improvement with his speed over the course of his junior year, running multiple sub-11.0 second times in the 100 meters, highlighted by a 10.74 second mark. A decisive runner. Hits creases and gets downhill quickly. Strong on contact. Bounces off defenders and runs through arm tackles at the second level. Shows some moves to make defenders miss in space. Effective at running between the tackles and to the perimeter. Showed solid long speed as a junior and should make advances in that area as a senior if his track times are any indication.
…Very productive and reliable as a junior, rushing for 1,961 yards and 30 touchdowns at 8.0 yards per carry. An effective pass catcher. Productive receiver with 364 yards and four touchdowns as a junior and looks natural catching the football in the camp setting. Has some tightness in his movements and can improve fluidity as he tends to gear down some when changing directions in games. A player who maximizes his talent and may be more developed than some others at this stage for that reason.”
Top Defense Commit: CB Jo’Ziah Edmond
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Edmond is the highest-ranked pledge for the Wolverines on the defensive side, checking in as the No. 226 overall prospect and No. 24 CB. He joined the fold back on Aug. 1, choosing the Wolverines following a decommitment from Purdue.
“There are guys who look up to him to do the right thing,” Northwood head coach Nate Andrews told The Wolverine about Edmond. “They want him to lead them. He’s got that about him. I look forward for him to keeping that in every game and In every practice.”
“He’s working on a lot of things at once and he’s playing a lot of different positions,” Andrews said. “I think that’s helped his overall game by him doing that over the course of a season and playing in these tough games. That’ll help his progress as well.”
