Blake Corum discusses setting Michigan records during monster 2023 seasons
It’s been a banner year for the Michigan Wolverines, ending the regular season undefeated with their third straight Big Ten title as they enter the College Football Playoff as the top-ranked team in the country. But for how successful Michigan has been as a team this season, Wolverines running back Blake Corum has been just as successful individually.
In the Big Ten Championship last weekend against Iowa, Corum scored the 24th touchdown of the season and 57th of his career, which both now represent new program records for touchdowns scored surpassing Anthony Thomas. Corum has the potential to add to the record with two potential playoff games ahead of him, but before getting too ahead of himself, he reflected on his major accomplishment.
“It feels great,” Corum said. “It feels great because I came to the University of Michigan just wanting to leave an impact on and off the field and I feel like I’ve done that. Up there with a great like A-Train [Thomas] and hopefully next game, I’ll surpass him. But at the time right now just tying with 55 it’s a blessing, but it’s been a collective effort form offensive line, tight end, receivers, but it does feel great.”
Corum doubled down on his impressive season from last year, which unfortunately ended with him tearing his ACL. He came back just as strong from his injury posting his second straight 1,000-yard rushing season to go along with his slew of touchdowns, as he also reflected on his mindset approaching such a lofty record.

“At the beginning of the season, it seemed kind far. But then you have a game with three touchdowns, and then you have a game with two, and then you might have another game with three. At the end of the season it’s like wow, you know, I’m right there,” Corum explained. “So every time I get inside the red zone, it doesn’t matter if there’s a stout defense or not, it’s like I got to get in. So at the beginning of the season it did seem far, but we’re here now.”
Corum has now etched his name into Michigan’s storied school history, breaking Thomas’ record that was set in 2000. Which led to him being asked if he’s ever had a chance to meet Thomas during his time in Ann Arbor.
“I have not, we’ll have to reach out and get a good conversation in,” Corum concluded.
As Corum awaits his introduction to Thomas, the world awaits for him to face off with Alabama in CFP Semifinal at the Rose Bowl, which kicks off at 5 p.m. ET on New Year’s Day.
