It’s safe to say Blake Corum is making quite an impression on Michigan running backs coach Mike Hart. Hart spoke glowingly of Corum both on and off the field — and made a lofty statement about his character in the process.

A reporter asked Hart how Corum compares to himself when he played at Michigan. There are some similarities, after all. Hart starred for the Wolverines from 2004-07, was a three-time First Team All-Big Ten selection and finished fifth in the 2006 Heisman Trophy voting. This year, Corum is putting himself in the Heisman conversation, leading the nation with 10 rushing touchdowns to help Michigan to a 5-0 start to the season.

But off the field, Hart spoke glowingly of Corum and said he’s quite an example for others.

“I love Blake,” Hart said. “… When I think about somebody, I have two daughters. One of them’s a beast and the other one’s really nice. Basically, one of them acts like me, one of them acts like their mom. Blake Corum could marry my daughters any day. When I think about, you want your daughters to marry who you are, and that’s Blake Corum. I love the kid. We have a special relationship. But I don’t want anyone touching my daughters or talking to my daughters. But Blake Corum? He can do what he wants.

“My four-year-old says, ‘When’s Bwake coming?’ So that’s what I’ll tell you. The kid is special. He acts like me, he is me. He just eats better than I do.”

Two weeks ago against Maryland, Corum put together a career day as he rushed for 243 yards and two touchdowns to help Michigan defeat the Terrapins 34-27 at The Big House. He’ll try to keep the strong season rolling when the Wolverines take on Indiana Saturday at noon ET on FOX.

But he’s not worried about the Heisman hype.

“I think it was the first couple of games last year it was there or something,” Corum said. “I don’t pay attention to it.

“At the end of the day, if you don’t win the Heisman at the end of the year, it don’t matter anyway. You know, obviously, it’s cool to go to New York or wherever it may be, but I’m focused on the team, man. I’m trying to go back to the College Football Playoff and win it all this year.”
