Sherrone Moore now takes over the Michigan football program in place of Jim Harbaugh after spending the past six seasons on the Wolverines staff. With many now wondering how the program will be the same or different under the new head coach.

Moore answered that exact question during his Thursday appearance on the ‘Pat McAfee Show‘, breaking down what the future of the program will look like compared to how the past nine seasons have looked under Harbaugh.

“The biggest thing people want to know is how am I going to run the program compared to Coach [Harbaugh],” Moore said. “I’m gonna run it my way and we’re still gonna be tough, we’re still gonna be smart, we’re gonna be dependable, we’re gonna be relentless in everything we do, continue the enthusiasm. The energy for me is a big piece of it. I want to be someone the kids can rely on, they can be a vessel for, be very open with them. My philosophy in coaching is I coach hard but I love harder, so they’re gonna feel that.”

Moore worked his way up in the Michigan program starting in 2018, spending three seasons as the tight ends coach in Ann Arbor before being promoted to the co-offensive coordinator & offensive line coach in 2021. In his two seasons in that role the Wolverines offensive line won the Joe Moore Award in back to back seasons, promoted to offensive coordinator in 2023 ahead of the Wolverines’ national championship campaign.

“So the program and how we’ve done it and how we’ve built it is gonna be the same, there’s gonna be bits and pieces that is me. I’m gonna be me, I can’t be Coach, don’t want to be Coach. Coach is his own person, I love him, got mad love for him and always will and respect him. I’ve learned so much from him, but I’m gonna run the program my way,” Moore explained.

Moore was an important piece of Michigan’s recent growth and success with a front-row seat to the program reaching the pinnacle of college football. And although he will look to be his own head coach and distinguish himself from Harbaugh, he also wants to keep the foundational elements of Michigan’s culture in tact at the helm.

“The toughness, the blue-collar mentality, how hard we work on the field, off the field, the academic standard. Everything we do we’re definitely going to present ourselves in a high class manor, we’re gonna continue to do that the exact same way.”

“As far as a football team you want to keep that as similar as possible,” Moore said. “The results speak for themselves so we want to continue to play at that high level with that physicality, with that toughness, and do everything in that manner. But things on a day to day might be a little different and as we go we’ll figure out what those things are.”

Between losing key players and staff members to four new contenders joining the Big Ten Conference next season, there’s no question that Sherrone Moore will have his work cut out for him in year one as the head man. As he’ll look to maintain the Wolverines’ culture and standard in his own way ahead of the 2024 season.
