Princeton (N.J.) Hun School three-star defensive lineman Owen Wafle has committed to the Michigan Wolverines. Wafle was a long-time Notre Dame commit but decommitted from the Fighting Irish on May 24.

Prior to his decommitment, Wafle had been committed to Notre Dame since May 16, 2022.

The 6-foot-2, 267-pounder is the No. 409 overall prospect and No. 38 defensive lineman in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 7 player in New Jersey.

Wafle’s pledge comes on the same weekend that he was on an official visit to Ann Arbor.

“I don’t have anything bad to say about Notre Dame,” Wafle told EJ Holland ahead of the visit. “Michigan just started coming around and talking to me. At first, I was like ‘I’m committed to Notre Dame.’ I didn’t want to overstep any boundaries.

“Michigan gave me more information on their school, how I would fit into their defense and got me talking to a lot of coaches there. I wanted to schedule an official visit, and Notre Dame has a policy that you cant take OVs if you’re a committed player. I felt like I owed it to myself and the recruiting process that I needed to check out Michigan.”

In nine games during his junior campaign, Wafle had 64 tackles (43 solo), 24 tackles for loss, 10 sacks and four quarterback hurries. As a sophomore, he registered 48 tackles (27 solo), five tackles for loss, one sack and four quarterback hurries.

Wafle currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $36K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
