Paul Finebaum again rips Jim Harbaugh after loss to Michigan State
College football analyst Paul Finebaum has not been shy about sharing his criticism on Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh in the past. In the weeks leading up to the season, Finebaum was very vocal with his criticism of Harbaugh. Despite starting the year 7-0 with Michigan, Harbaugh and the Wolverines fell to Michigan State on Saturday.
Following Michigan’s loss, Finebaum ripped into Harbaugh yet again for his latest blunder in a big game. Harbaugh is now just 2-9 in road games in AP ranked matchups since taking over at Michigan.
“What’s so remarkable about this story is that when he was hired from the NFL to be the head coach at Michigan, many of us thought that he would become one of the top coaches in the entire country,” Finebaum said of Harbaugh. “Now, today after what happened yesterday in East Lansing, he’s not even the best college football coach in the state of Michigan. That’s how far he has fallen.
“Nobody I don’t think in college football history has blown more big games than Jim Harbaugh. But he’s still employed and Michigan is stuck with him at least for now.”
Finebaum on Harbaugh at Michigan before the season: ‘He makes me sick’
Prior to the season getting underway, Finebaum went as far to say that Harbaugh makes him sick as Michigan’s head coach. Harbaugh led the Wolverines to five consecutive bowl appearances to begin his tenure, but only won one of those games. Michigan has not won a bowl since 2015.

“I don’t know if you can come up with a vomit emoji very quickly in the spur of the moment, but he makes me sick because he shouldn’t be coaching,” Finebaum said when asked to describe Harbaugh. “Yeah, this guy should have been fired last year. If we do our job as poorly as Jim Harbaugh has done his, we’re gone/ It’s not even a debate, it’s not even, ‘Hey, would you come into my office and let’s have a conversation.’ It’s they throw you out in the parking lot.
“But somehow, some way, this guy, who I think is a complete fraud, is a major head coach. He’s making six or seven or eight million dollars a year although I think they cut his salary last year. He’s still there. He can’t beat his rival. He really quite frankly can’t beat even the middle of the pack in the Big Ten.”
Michigan has a tough end to the season with four games remaining. In Week 10 the Wolverines host Indiana. Michigan then hits the road for two consecutive road games against Penn State and Maryland. Ohio State and Michigan face off in the final week of the regular season.
