Oak Park (Ill.) Fenwick On300 defensive lineman Nate Marshall announced his commitment to Michigan on Monday following his return visit to campus for the spring game over the weekend.

The 6-foot-5, 265-pound Marshall and his parents spent Saturday and Sunday in Ann Arbor soaking in the festivities around the Big House while also getting a lot of time around first-year head coach Sherrone Moore and the Maize and Blue staff.

Marshall was one of the top overall prospects on the board for Moore and company, and chooses to play his college football for the defending National Champs over his other top schools including Auburn, Alabama, Miami and Illinois among many others.

The On3 Industry tabs Marshall as the No. 1 prospect in Illinois, the No. 4 defensive lineman in the class and No. 40 prospect overall. He has always given Michigan high marks while taking about the Wolverines throughout his process.

“Michigan has great tradition, culture and coaching,” Marshall has said in the past. “They’ve shown in many ways all of this throughout their undefeated season.”

Marshall could always see himself playing inside The Big House as evident from past interviews. He was at the win over Ohio State this past November which clinched a third-straight Big Ten title.

“Was a crazy experience and glad to be in the building for it!” Marshall said at the time of the win over the Buckeyes. “It was a great game and three-straight times of beating such a team is a real tough, strong stat to have under your belt. The offense was fun to watch but even more the defense from Michigan.”

Marshall had some takeaways from that experience as well.

“Great traditions, stadium and fan atmosphere, coaching staff and seeing myself fit in the system.”

Marshall’s mother Khara (maiden name Smith) was a three-time All-American for the DePaul basketball team and was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame this past year. His grandfather Ken Norman starred on the hardwood for Illinois before a long career in the NBA.

Marshall joins a Michigan recruiting class that includes four-star quarterback Carter Smith, fellow four-star defensive lineman Bobby Kanka and tight end Eli Owens.
