Rayshaun Benny jokes about sacking Bryce Underwood: 'We don't touch Bryce'

Don’t hit the quarterback. Especially when he’s the No. 1 overall recruit in the most recent recruiting cycle.
That was the sentiment shared by Michigan defensive lineman Rayshaun Benny, who joked after spring practice on Friday that, “We don’t touch Bryce,” in response to whether or not he’s sacked blue-chip freshman QB Bryce Underwood thus far during the early offseason.
Of course, this isn’t surprising given that quarterbacks are typically the most protected position in the sport on the practice field. Injuries to the signal-caller could have season-shifted implications, and losing a Five-Star-Plus+ prospect, especially under center, during the preseason could change expectations in Ann Arbor for the rest of the year. Underwood appears to be on track to start in Week 1 for Michigan, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.
Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore was asked to speak on how the Wolverines’ incoming freshman has looked during the early sprint slate. He appears pleased with the effort from the entire 2025 recruiting class who is already on campus.
“I think just early enrollees in general, it’s a great thing for the game and for those players to be able to come in and… not only just for football, for school, be able to handle school, be able to maneuver in school and know where your classes are, but for him and all the quarterbacks, it’s been good,” Moore said.

“Adjusting to things and doing things a little bit differently, but he’s done well. He works his tail off. He’s in here late, in here early, and, you know, those guys have really worked hard to compete at that position.”
From offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey, to current teammates, to outgoing Wolverines at their Pro Day, Underwood has been showered with praise since his arrival on campus for bowl game prep. Fans will be able to watch the superstar in the making during the team’s spring game, which is scheduled for April 19.
The game won’t be aired on television, though. So, fans will have to come in person out to Michigan Stadium to watch the Wolverines in action.
Underwood is expected to take over an offense that helped lead the Wolverines to an 8-5 final record, which inlcuded consecutive wins over Ohio State, who would go on to win the national championship, in the regular season finale and the Alabama Crimson Tide in the ReliaQuest Bowl to end the season.
