Michigan safety Rod Moore is returning to the school for next season, per CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz. Moore missed the 2024 campaign after tearing his ACL during a special teams drill in March.

Moore has spent four seasons at Michigan, amassing 37 appearances and 28 starts. The 2022 season was Moore’s best. He finished the year with career-highs of 71 tackles, 1.5 sacks, four interceptions and seven pass breakups.

For his efforts, he was named an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention selection by the media. In 2023, Moore received even more recognition for his spectacular play, reeling in All-Big Ten Third Team honors from the league’s coaches. Moore recorded four tackles in Michigan’s win over Washington in the National Championship.

While Moore was unable to contribute on the field for the Wolverines this season, he didn’t allow his injury to halt his improvement as a player. Moore stayed engaged in the game and grew his football knowledge this season.

In October, Moore opened up on how he was making the best of the unfortunate situation.

“I tell a lot of people that I’ve probably gotten smarter right now than I was playing, just because you’re looking at it from a coach’s point of view, where you’re not playing,” Moore said. “A lot of the game, I’m sitting there on the sideline, calling out what they’re about to do. They can’t hear me — I’m yelling at the defense, but they can’t hear me.

“It honestly surprises me with the stuff that I’m able to see with the way people line up and watching the game, and when we’re watching as a team. It’s crazy.  I’ve been telling myself, if I ever got to play again — either this year or next year, if I come back — the amount of plays that I could make just by off of what I know I’ll get.

“It’s different when you know what you’re gonna get, because you play faster, you don’t guess yourself. I think I’ll play a lot better if I — when I’m able to play again.”

Now, Rod Moore will reportedly have that chance. He’ll be joining a team with no shortage of momentum. After going 5-5 through their first 10 games of the season, the Wolverines finished strong, defeating Ohio State in the regular-season finale and Alabama in the ReliaQuest Bowl.
