Michigan guard Roddy Gayle Jr. was taken back to the locker room after suffering an apparent hamstring injury in the Big Ten Tournament Championship. Gale was seen hobbling down the court and holding his left leg late in the first half against Wisconsin.

Wolverines fans will be holding their breath on his status as Michigan trailed 23-21 at halftime. CBS sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson offered the latest on Gayle’s status just before the break.

“Roddy Gayle right now in the Michigan locker room getting treatment on that left hamstring,” Wolfson said. “I was told there was no idea whether he’ll be able to return for this half. Most likely we’ll get a further report at halftime.”

Gayle transferred to Michigan this offseason from rival Ohio State, where he played the previous two seasons. He has started 25 of 32 games he appeared in for the Wolverines to average 9.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game while shooting 43.2%.

However, Gayle came off the bench in Sunday’s game and that is where he began the second half against the Badgers. Wolfson provided another update at the start of the second half, saying Gayle is questionable to return.

“He had that left hamstring worked on at halftime by head trainer Chris Williams,” she reported. “He was riding a bike inside the locker room to get loose. He went through warm ups, did some light jogging, but was definitely still struggling. He is questionable to return.”

A few minutes after that, Gayle checked into the game with 16:19 to go. It appears the injury is one that he will be able to push through as he attempts to help the Wolverines to a Big Ten title.

Gayle currently has two points, two rebounds and one assists off the bench while shooting 1-of-4. Michigan finds itself trailing 38-30 with 12:41 left.
