Shemy Schembechler releases statement after resignation from Michigan
Shemy Schembechler, the son of legendary coach Bo, resigned from his position at Michigan after just three days due to previous questionable actions on social media. Shemy released a statement this week after the quick pivot.
“Any words or philosophies that in any way seek to underplay the immeasurable suffering and long-term economic and social inequities that hundreds of years of slavery and the ‘Jim Crow’ era caused for Black Americans is wrong,” Schembechler said in a statement in part. “I was wrong. We must never sanitize morally unsanitary, historical behaviors that have hindered the Black community, or any other community. There are no historical silver linings for the experience of our brothers and sisters.”
Shemy Schembechler previously worked as an NFL scout, most recently with the Las Vegas Raiders. He also worked for the Chicago Bears, Seattle Seahawks, Washington Commanders and Kansas City Chiefs during his career. The longest stint with any organization was with Washington, where he worked from 2000-12.
He announced he accepted a position at Michigan May 17.
“I’m beyond honored to return home to (Michigan Football)!” Schembechler tweeted. “#GoBlue always and forever!”
Some social media posts liked by Schembechler came into question after the Wolverines announced his hiring. His account, as of publication, appears to have been deleted.

Schembechler was also the president of GES Advisory Company, a service for high schoolers to give them feedback about their potential at the next level. However, according to LinkedIn, he left the job as of this month. The reason was most likely because of his new gig in Ann Arbor.
His father is one of the winningest coaches in Michigan history, amassing a 194-48-5 record during his time at the helm. However, his legacy is complicated after multiple student-athletes have come forward alleging sexual abuse by university doctor Robert Anderson.
Bo Schembechler’s adopted son, Matt, was among the accusers, telling ESPN in 2011 he was molested by Anderson in the 1960s and his father didn’t do anything about it despite knowing of the allegations.
