After head coach Jim Harbaugh left the Michigan Wolverines following the 2023 season, Sherrone Moore was quickly promoted to head coach. Now, it’s a job he wants to hold for the foreseeable future.

While speaking to The Wolverine, Moore explained that he has a goal of coaching at Michigan for a long time and doing his fair share of winning in the process.

“It means everything,” Sherrone Moore said. “I can’t thank everybody enough for the support. I’m just ready to go. I’m ready to hit the ground running. Ready to continue to work and make sure we make everybody proud and, like I tell everybody, I plan on being the head coach here for a long time.”

Michigan is coming off one of the greatest seasons in program history, going unbeaten and winning the national championship. Along the way, thanks to suspensions served by head coach Jim Harbaugh, Sherrone Moore got experience as a head coach, leading the Wolverines in four games. That includes the Ohio State win.

“I want to win a lot of games. I want to win a lot of football games, win a lot of championships, and there’s gonna be some adversity at some point,” Moore said. “So, I asked the fans the people around us to support our players because nobody wants to win more than they do, but our job is to win and they want to continue to do that at a high level.”

Sherrone Moore worked at Michigan under Jim Harbaugh as an offensive assistant since 2018. By 2023, he was also the team’s offensive coordinator and is known for his strong offensive line background. He also has some in-game head coaching experience from his time as the acting head coach in 2023. Now, he must continue that transition into being the full-time coach.

Following the spring, Moore had addressed dealing with that transition into being the head coach.

“Just different in the fact that it’s not as much football,” Moore said. “I used to sit in the room with two big screens and watch football all the time, but it’s less of that and more of managing of an organization on a daily basis. Just keeping our alignment and keeping our process the same. So, that’s really been the biggest difference for me.”

Clearly, it’s a job that Sherrone Moore has embraced and if he does as much winning as he plans on in the future he’ll be able to have the longevity that he’s planning on.
