Sherrone Moore identifies young Michigan running backs with big potential
Sherrone Moore cannot stop raving about the Michigan Wolverines running back room.
The program’s offensive coordinator already knows he has two stars in Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards, and is prepared to use them as so in 2023. But behind the exciting duo are some fascinating talents, who Moore shed some light on during an appearance on the MGoBlue Podcasts with Jon Jansen.
“Kalel Mullings has obviously stood out. He’s big, he’s strong, he’s physical, and he’s pretty fast, and he’s got tremendous ball skills for a guy his size, so very excited about him,” started Moore. “CJ Stokes is another guy who’s really coming on in the spring. But this young Benjamin Hall kid man, he’s got some dynamic ability.
“He’s built low to the ground. Thick, huge legs. His legs are like Blake’s, maybe a little bigger. But he’s got a great future, and excited about him and Cole Cabana both. Kind of had some injury stuff he’s working through, and he’s getting better and he’s fine now, but excited about those young backs.”
It’s good to know that the Wolverines have some more phenomenal talent in the pipeline after Corum and Edwards call it a career. Still, the Michigan duo is ready to tear up college football once again in 2023, and Moore remains entranced by their skillset.
“Sky is the limit, people say,” added the Wolverines play-caller, regarding Corum and Edwards. “It’s through that. These guys are special. I was just watching some film from this past year just to watch the little things that these guys do that people don’t notice. The little cuts, the little moves. Making somebody miss on the first, second or third level. The running over the guy. Jumping over someone. Out-running them. Then the ball skills that they both have.

“They’re elite. So they’re as an elite of a group, you know two tandem group that I’ve been around. Even better human beings and workers, and guys and leaders and everything you want. They’re just outstanding individuals. Outstanding humans. Just excited that we get to coach them.”
Over the last couple of seasons, Corum and Edwards have been the engine behind the Wolverines offense. Evidently, that’s going to remain the same next season for Michigan.
Nevertheless, Michigan faithful can take solace in the fact that Sherrone Moore believes there’s more greatness within the Wolverines running back room. That should excite fans, and dismay the rest of the college football world.
