Michigan is to their third quarterback of the season with a new starter in Jack Tuttle. However, while that’s the more important part of that position on the depth chart, that also then changes the lineup behind him too as to who will now be the backup for the Wolverines.
During his press conference on Monday, Sherrone Moore addressed whether Alex Orji or Davis Warren would now be QB2. He said that they’re unsure for the moment between the two. With that, though, Orji seems likelier to an extent considering how else the offense can utilize him as a tool.
“We’ll see,” Moore said.
“Right now, you know, we still have Alex. You know, Alex will be there and he’ll have a role,” said Moore. “We’ve still got Davis.”
Warren and Orji both had a trio of games to start in the first half of this season for Michigan. Since then, each has been subbed out in their third opportunity respectively.

Warren was the starting quarterback for the first three games of this year. In those outings, he went 48-72 (66.7%) for 444 yards, two touchdowns, and six interceptions. The picks increased by one in each appearance with three in his last game leading to his benching against Arkansas State.
Orji then checked in at that point and started the next three for the maize & blue. Although appearing in those first three as well, his statistics from those starts specifically include him completing 20-37 (54.1%) of his throws for just 133 yards total with one touchdown and one interception. He did also rush for 66 yards. Still, after a three-for-seven start in their most recent game against Washington, Tuttle was inserted by the middle of the second quarter.
Quarterback has been a complete problem coming into and during this entire season so far in Ann Arbor. Michigan will now hope that they’ve found the actual answer this time while also deciding between backups from here in one of Orji or Warren.
“We’ll continue to roll with those guys,” said Moore.
