Sherrone Moore outlines his plan for NIL at Michigan
Taking over a college football program can be a daunting task, especially these days with the current implementation of NIL and the transfer portal. Michigan coach Sherrone Moore knows it all too well.
He’s been scrambling since he took over.
And make no mistake about it, there are some very important pieces of the puzzle that need to be put in place rather quickly, not the least of which is NIL. Having a robust NIL infrastructure is key to maintaining a high level of talent on the roster.
“Yeah I mean I’ve learned about the NIL era throughout the time here and try to be involved in listening and knowing what’s going on,” Sherrone Moore said Thursday on the Pat McAfee Show. “But the official sit-downs haven’t really happened yet.”
In the coming weeks, Moore will get a chance to get a more exact idea of Michigan’s NIL structure and any tweaks he might want to make. He’s had some awareness of it, obviously, as a top assistant coach under Jim Harbaugh.
Still, there’s a lot of nuance he will likely need to be brought up to speed on.
There will be a time for that once the burden of recruiting in person fades following national signing day.
“As far as the NIL piece, it’s something that’s there,” Sherrone Moore said. “It’s something that you’ve got to address, something that you’ve got to attack, that you’ve got to have a plan. The plan that I think we should have in place we’re going to start to implement, and hopefully that will keep us where we need to be in college football.”
But you can forgive Moore for not having that already locked down. There’s been a ton of things to get to since he took over the job.

Moore had to hire some additional staffers to fill in gaps. He has had to cobble together the last of the recruiting class. He’s had to begin laying the groundwork for the team’s offseason program.
Simply put, there have been a million things to do. But Moore is starting to get his feet under him a little more.
“I got the job and then we had to get on the road, so I would say for a first-time head coach I tell people like the first couple days in comparison, it’s third-and-12 on the minus-4 yard line and it’s zero pressure, you’ve got to figure out what to do with the ball,” Sherrone Moore said, providing a football analogy of being under pressure.
“It’s becoming more of third-and-4, third-and-5, more manageable. I think every single day will help you get ahead of the chains. That’s what I’m going to try to do every single day.”
