Michigan underwent a makeover this offseason. Head coach Jim Harbaugh accepted an offer to become the Los Angeles Chargers’ head coach. He took multiple Michigan staffers with him, including defensive coordinator Jesse Minter.

Michigan’s losses on the staff is only the start of the team’s concerns. The program has an event-record 18 players in the NFL Combine. Additionally, eleven players have entered the transfer portal.

Despite the setbacks, new Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore isn’t afraid. In fact, he believes Michigan will bounce back just like the many years prior.

“We’re just going to work,” Moore said during an appearance at the NFL Network. “We’re not going to say much. We’re just going to let the results and everything [speak for themselves] on the field. And just keep going to work.

“We’re a blue-collar type program that we’re not going to open our mouths and talk. We’re just gonna go to work and then show what we can do when it comes time in September.”

On Jan. 26, Michigan officially named Moore the program’s 21st head coach. He was the offensive coordinator for the Wolverines last season during the team’s run to a national championship.

As Michigan’s offensive coordinator in 2023, Moore directed a unit that ranked top 10 in seven offensive categories and was top 30 in 10 overall metrics. Moore is thrilled to usher in a new era of Michigan Football.

“I have been preparing my entire coaching career for this opportunity and I can’t think of a better place to be head coach than at the University of Michigan,” Moore said. “We will do everything each day as a TEAM to continue the legacy of championship football that has been played at Michigan for the past 144 years. Our standards will not change.

“We will be a smart, tough, dependable, relentless, and enthusiastic championship-level team that loves football and plays with passion for the game, the winged helmet and each other. We will also continue to achieve excellence off the field, in the classroom and in our communities. I am excited to start working in this new role with our players, coaches and staff.”

Michigan has 26 players committed in the 2024 recruiting class, earning the No. 15 spot in On3’s Team Recruiting Rankings. The group includes 14 four-star prospects, highlighted by running back Jordan Marshall.

Michigan has only added two players in the transfer portal thus far. Nonetheless, Sherrone Moore is clearly confident in his program ahead of next season.
