Michigan is one of a handful of national powers going through a coaching change this season, as last year’s partial interim coach Sherrone Moore takes over full time following Jim Harbaugh‘s departure for the NFL.

However, despite the change at the top, not much else will change in terms of expectations for the program. Especially not coming off a national championship.

“I think every year for us our goal is to win that,” Sherrone Moore said at Big Ten Media Days on Thursday. “We’re not going to stray away from the goal of trying to win it all every year. When you’re at Michigan that should be your goal every single year.”

Michigan will have several hurdles this season, not the least of which is adjusting to a new coaching staff. Harbaugh wasn’t the only one who departed, so there will be a number of new faces in leadership positions this fall.

Then there are the practical concerns.

Who is the starting quarterback following the departure of JJ McCarthy? All McCarthy did was win, and finding someone that can replicate that steady nature and approach will be difficult.

Moore didn’t have answers on a starter just yet, though Alex Orji is likely the favorite to take the gig initially.

The new head coach, though, stressed that many of those answers will come during fall camp.

“For our team, it will take shape in training camp and then it will take shape in Game 1 and Game 2 to see where we’re at,” Sherrone Moore said. “Feel very confident about our team, very excited about our team. Every team is different. Team 142, (143) and (144), they’re all different. So, excited to see where 145 is.”

Michigan’s schedule also won’t afford many favors. The team takes on Texas, albeit at home in the Big House, in Week 2.

Then there are games against USC, Washington, Oregon and Ohio State on the schedule. It’ll be a tough slate, but that’s just going to be the new norm in the mega-conference era.

Michigan gets underway on Aug. 31 with a game against Fresno State. As Sherrone Moore points out, the goal is to repeat as national champs. It starts there.
