4-star center Tarris Reed commits to Michigan
Four-star Tarris Reed has committed to Michigan basketball for the class of 2022, he tells On3.
Reed is the Wolverines’ second commitment in the class, joining Dug McDaniel. Michigan, which finished with the No. 1 ranked recruiting class for 2021, is pushing hard again to finish on top in 2022. The Wolverines are also targeting Jaden Bradley, Gregg Glenn, Jarace Walker, Eric Dailey, among others.
Reed, a 6-foot-9 center, is a native of St. Louis, Mo., and he played the majority of his high school ball at Chaminade Prep School – the former stomping grounds of Celtics’ star Jayson Tatum. Reed averaged nearly 22 points a game and 11 rebounds a game as a junior.
Reed has since announced he would be transferring to Link Year Prep in Branson, Mo., for his senior year.
Player development key in Tarris Reed’s decision
Tarris Reed said he’s a believer in the Michigan coaching staff.
“Playing under coach (Juwan) Howard will help me get to that level that I want to go, the NBA,” Reed said. “I just want to see my development in the future, and see how good I can become. I don’t really know how good I can be. So I’m just going to keep my head down and keep working. And trust that coach (Juwan Howard) is going to get me there.”

Reed said Howard “was just as excited as I was really.”
“I’m ready to be coached by him — a coach that played my position and that’s been to the NBA,” Reed said. “I can’t wait.”
Tarris Reed’s choice was not clear at first
“Originally, after my Ohio State visit… that’s where I wanted to go,” Tarris Reed said. “I liked everything about it. I didn’t really want to go visit Michigan the next week but I’m glad I did. My parents talked me into it. I’m glad I made that decision because now, look at me, I’m committed to Michigan.”
