3-star defensive lineman Brooks Bahr commits to Michigan
Wilmette (Ill.) Loyola Academy defensive lineman Brooks Bahr has committed to Michigan, he announced Tuesday afternoon on Twitter.
Bahr is the No. 476 prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 58 defensive lineman and the No. 8 junior prospect in the state of Illinois.
“First of all, I would like to thank the coaches and staff from each of the schools that have recruited me, believing in me and giving me the opportunity to play for such respected programs,” Bahr wrote. “I would also like to thank all of the coaches at Loyola Academy for pushing me to be the best player I can be. Especially Coach Pete and Coach Holecek for their guidance throughout this whole process. Thank you Kerry Neal and the Win Performance staff for getting me here, I couldn’t have done it without any of you. Lastly, I would like to thank my parents for their support in this whole process and the countless sacrifices to find the right fit. That being said, I am grateful to announce I am 100% committed to the University of Michigan!”
The Wolverines won out over offers from Cincinnati, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Michigan, Nebraska, and Vanderbilt, among others.
“Playing in The Big House has always been a dream of mine,” Bahr recently told On3’s TheWolverine.com. “That would be crazy. I made a visit there and loved the whole atmosphere. The facilities are really nice. The rich tradition stands out as well as having the opportunity to play for a national championship. The fanbase is awesome, too.”

New Michigan defensive line coach Mike Elston has also made Bahr feel like a top priority. Elston just offered last month, but the two have a preexisting relationship from Elston’s time at Notre Dame.
“I met Coach Elston at a camp at Notre Dame, and I really like the way he coaches,” Bahr said. “We have a great bond. We talk every week. He’s a really cool guy. He’s been telling me that he sees me as a three-tech in their defensive scheme. It’s more of defensive tackle role. He wants me to be a hand on the ground type of guy that plays well against the run. We’ve been talking a lot about fit.”
Bahr is the sixth commitment in Michigan’s 2023 class, which ranks No. 8 nationally according to the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings. He is also the Wolverines’ second commit on the defensive side of the ball, joining four-star linebacker Raylen Wilson.
