Consensus three-star receiver Tay’shawn Trent of Harper Woods (Mich.) High decommitted from the Michigan Wolverines on Tuesday.

“I (would) like to thank the Michigan staff – coach (Josh) Gattis, coach (Ron) Bellamy and coach (Jim) Harbaugh for offering me the opportunity of a lifetime,” Trent said in a social media post. “But unfortunately, I will be dropping my commitment to the University of Michigan and opening my recruitment back up 100%.

“I will always be a Wolverine fan, as I grew up watching them. But God has other plans for me.”

Trent had been a longtime commitment for the Wolverines. He originally pledged to Michigan on March 3, 2021, picking the Wolverines over offers from more than 15 other schools. The move had been a long time coming and fully expected by both Trent and the Wolverines.
