Todd McShay makes interesting proclamation on Michigan's Aidan Hutchinson
Todd McShay has released his NFL mock draft 2.0 following the Super Bowl, and Michigan edge Aidan Hutchinson goes to the Detroit Lions at second overall. Hutchinson follows Alabama offensive tackle Evan Neal, who went first overall to the Jaguars.
In evaluating Hutchinson, McShay is very high on the former Wolverines star. Hutchinson was a Heisman finalist this past season after breaking the Michigan sack record with 14. He also had 62 total tackles and 16.5 tackles for loss, also adding three passes defended, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.
“Detroit then is picking at two. And Aidan Hutchinson obviously played at Michigan. Has nothing to do with the hometown team, and yes that would be an added benefit. It’s all about what Hutchinson has put on tape, especially this past year setting a Michigan record with 14 sacks,” McShay said of Hutchinson in the draft. “You watch him in pre-snap, he’s pointing to Ojabo like, ‘Hey, we got this, this, this,’ and they’ll shift a little bit and all of a sudden he’ll be like run your side, he’ll come off the edge and work to the backside. And nine out of ten times, he’s right with what he saw on tape and transferring it to the field.
“Then his mechanics tying his feet and his hands together as a pass rusher. He’s a freak and he’s going to work out really well at the combine. People don’t think he’s that athletic. I see there’s some tightness in him, but his explosive numbers, his 40 time, his vertical jump, broad jump, those things are going to be outstanding. I think if it’s not one, it’s very likely to be number two to Detroit.”

Hutchinson shot up draft boards after a strong senior season
This past season was Hutchinson’s fourth at Michigan. In his four-year collegiate career, he played in 36 games with 156 tackles, 27.5 tackles for loss, 17.5 sacks, ten passes defended, and five forced fumbles. Entering the season, Oregon’s Kayvon Thibodeaux was viewed as the top prospect in the class, but Hutchinson’s strong season has resulted in a shakeup at the top.
Now, Thibodeaux doesn’t go until fifth overall in McShay’s latest mock. His entre top ten features some serious shakeups, but he believes that the Lions will hit a home run by selecting Hutchinson.
Here is McShay’s full top ten in his mock draft 2.0:
