Tre Donaldson drains halfcourt buzzer-beater to extend halftime lead over Wake Forest
A halfcourt buzzer-beater from Tre Donaldson helped extend Michigan‘s lead against Wake Forest before halftime.
Taking a 38-34 lead into the break, Donaldson’s halfcourt heave halted a 10-0 run from the Demon Deacons. The Auburn transfer had 1.2 seconds to work with after Wake Forest cut the lead to one on a last-second 3-pointer of their own.
He took the inbound pass in stride and banked in the shot to give the Wolverines the momentum heading into the second half.
The buzzer-beating shot capped off a strong first-half performance from Donaldson, who was the driving force behind much of the Wolverines’ offense in the first half.
Donaldson finished the first half shooting 3 of 4 from the floor with eight points, six rebounds and three assists. He was aided by Alabama transfer Sam Walters, who cashed in on 3 of his 4 attempts from deep. He finished with nine points off the bench off those shots in the first half.
L.J. Cason and Rubin Jones combined for 14 points off the bench as well, as the rest of the Michigan starting lineup besides Donaldson combined for seven points in the first half.

Donaldson was arguably the biggest get for Michigan out of the transfer portal this offseason and is expected to be the team’s main ball handler during the 2024-25 season.
“It felt good,” Donaldson said, via The Wolverines’ Calyton Sayfie. “I feel like I’m the best point guard in the country, so just being able to have a new platform here at Michigan and a coach that believes in me fully and I get the opportunity to be on the floor a little bit more, it’s exciting. It’s a blessing.”
The 6-foot-3 sophomore started 10 games in 67 appearances for the Tigers, averaging 6.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game for Auburn last season. He will likely have a larger role for the Wolverines this season.
Donaldson, a native of Tallahassee, Florida, is a former three-star recruit and was the No. 133 overall player in the nation from the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.
