Tre Donaldson makes miraculous game-winning shot to send Michigan to Big Ten Championship

Tre Donaldson was the hero Saturday to send Michigan to the Big Ten Championship with a last-second layup against Maryland. With just five seconds remaining, the Wolverines inbounded the ball from the other end of the floor, and Donaldson raced down to put the basket in at the last second.
The victory advanced Michigan, which won 81-80, to the Big Ten title game, where it will face Wisconsin on Sunday. You can view the play from Donaldson below.
The game came down to the wire as things were tied up at 74 with 2:38 remaining. Michigan would go on to score the go ahead bucket, but Derik Queen answered to tie it up for Maryland.
After Donaldson answered with a 3-pointer on the other side, the Terrapins scored a bucket to make it a one-point game. They then fouled Danny Wolf on the other end, and he missed the free throws to give Maryland a chance.
Queen got fouled on the next possession and made both free throws to give the Terps an 80-79 advantage. However, Tre Donaldson then followed with his game-saving play to give Michigan the win.
Things were close at halftime as the Wolverines took a 38-34 lead into the break. Wolf was a big factor with eight points and eight rebounds in the first half.

Big men Wolf and Vladislav Goldin combined for 46 points and 24 rebounds. Michigan opened the second half on an 11-0 run to take a 15-point lead but allowed Maryland to crawl back into the game and eventually retake the lead with 8:21 remaining.
The teams essentially traded baskets from there until Donaldson delivered the final blow. Michigan overcame 19 turnovers to survive and advance. The Wolverines outrebounded the Terrapins by a massive margin of 47-18.
Michigan is looking for its fourth Big Ten tourney title and its first since 2018, while Wisconsin seeks its fourth title, and its first since 2015. After that, Michigan will wait for Sunday’s selection show to find out the rest of its March Madness plans, though regardless of the result, it’s certain to return to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2022.
Now, Michigan (24-9) will face Wisconsin in search of its first Big Ten title since 2018 in Sunday afternoon’s final at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Tip-off for that contest is set for 3:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on CBS.
