Former Ohio State and Florida coach Urban Meyer pushed back on the narrative that Michigan should vacate their 2023 College Football Playoff national title. He didn’t even want to hear the discussion.

This comes on the heels of head coach Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines self-imposing a two-game suspension for 2025 in Weeks 3 and 4. Not only that, but President Santa Ono, coincidentally, is leaving for the same role at Florida.

“Yeah, I’ve been blown up all morning about that,” Meyer said on The Triple Option. “I say, pump the brakes. Don’t even go there … When you start seeing about coaches that can’t coach, you know, you went through this, and you see the word show cause, show cause, in my understanding, means you can’t coach.

“If someone wants to hire you, you’re not allowed to coach. So, obviously there’s some stuff there, but once again I defer until everything comes out, and I hope it does. I hope everything comes out. And so at some point you can move past this because this is like a black cloud that’s been hanging.”

Vacating wins? Ha! Meyer laughs at the idea and he broke it down further when it comes to Michigan and other teams that have been embroiled in some sort of scandal.

“Everyone starts laughing,” Meyer said regarding Michigan or others having wins vacated or potentially vacated. “Vacate what wins? Seven years ago, six years ago, four years ago. You know, that has no impact on, you know, that’s the risk reward. You can vacate all the wins you want. Now, obviously this discussion will come up. You know, you start vacating wins from a national championship season, that’s a problem.

“But I think Tennessee had some wins vacated, if I remember, right, maybe Arizona State, the teams weren’t very good. So who cares? The risk reward is in full effect there. That means there’s no risk and a great reward, I guess, if you do the things they’re doing. So you hear the word vacated wins, everybody rolls their eyes in college sports.”
