Urban Meyer reveals his analysis of Bryce Underwood: 'He has it all'

Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood has received praise from almost everywhere. None might be more telling of his skill level than Urban Meyer speaking highly of him. Where Meyer, a former Ohio State head coach, stands within the rivalry is quite well documented.

But now with the media, Meyer provided an honest analysis of Underwood entering the 2025 season. He is excited to see what Michigan has their hands on, just based on high school film.

“He’s a guy that I’ve watched high school film on and he has it all,” Meyer said. “So, I can’t wait to watch him play.”

Underwood played high school football at Belleville (MI), where he was a Five-Star Plus+ prospect. He was the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2025 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Michigan getting Underwood into the class was by far the biggest recruiting storyline of the cycle. He was a long-time commit of Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers, seemingly destined to play in Baton Rouge. Instead, Underwood decided to flip over and play for the in-state program.

Now, a good bit of NIL money did play a factor in the recruitment. Michigan will be paying Underwood quite handsomely during his time in Ann Arbor. Still, to this point, he has not officially been named the starting quarterback. Meyer appears to not see a world where anyone else is under center.

“I think I read somewhere that he has not been named the starter,” Meyer said. “Which is shocking to me. If the numbers I’ve seen to play that player, the quarterback, the quarterback for the Wolverines, and not be starting.”

Michigan will begin its season on Aug. 30, going up against New Mexico. One week later, a massive nonconference game against the Oklahoma Sooners will take place in Norman. At the very least, everyone expects Underwood to be at least involved in the game plan. More likely than not, he will take the field as the starting quarterback.

As for Meyer, he should have plenty of opportunities to watch Underwood in person. Big Noon Kickoff could be on location for a Michigan game as soon as Sept. 20 in Lincoln when they face off against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. At the very least, you can count on Nov. 29 when Underwood gets his first taste of The Game against Ohio State.
