Michigan sophomore running back Blake Corum gave Michigan a 10-0 lead following a 67-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. The big play came immediately after a big fake punt conversion by Michigan kept their drive alive.

Blake Corum touchdown gives Michigan breathing room

On a simple rush to the left side of the field, Michigan’s offensive line built a hole that Corum exploded through for a 67-yard touchdown. Once he accelerated through the hole, his speed allowed him to completely blow by the last defender for Washington.

Corum’s efforts gave Michigan a much more comfortable lead over Washington, with the game 10-0 with 9:47 remaining in the game.

The play came after Michigan took a big chance on fourth down just before. Michigan called a fake punt that just managed to earn the short yardage needed for a first down and keep their drive alive. The very next play was Corum’s big run.

In the season opener for Michigan against Western Michigan, Corum had a big day on the ground. He began his sophomore season with 111 yards rushing and a touchdown on only 14 carries. He also added a receiving touchdown on the day on one of his two receptions.

Against Washington he looked to continue his hot start, and a 67-yard touchdown certainly helps.

Corum got the nod as starter for Michigan this year following his contributions to the team his freshman year. His first year at Michigan saw him play in all six games they played in 2020, mainly on special teams and as a backup running back.

He earned the start in one game as a freshman, and on the season he had 77 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries.

His debut as starter this season earned him a share of Offensive Player of the Week honors to start the year.
