Michigan finished spring football with only a few question marks, and they weren’t huge concerns. We tackle a few of them

After a game-swinging interception early in the second quarter, Michigan appeared to hit a shot play for a touchdown. J.J. McCarthy connected with wide receiver Roman Wilson on a deep play-action shot.

Wilson reeled the catch in right as his backside came down on the goal line. The officials initially ruled it a touchdown but after a review, changed the call to be down just inside the one.

Then disaster struck when Michigan fumbled the ball away on 1st and goal and TCU recovered it in the end zone. A game that was moments before 14-9, about to be 14-10, was still 14-3 with TCU in the lead.

As the fumble was recovered in the end zone, TCU got a touchback and began at the 20.

Sean McDonough and Todd Blackledge, on the call for ESPN, both disagreed with the overturn on the touchdown, as it appeared Wilson bobbled the ball and didn’t have possession until the ball was in the end zone.

Two plays to swing a touchdown to possession for the other team.

Fortunately for Michigan, the Wolverines forced a quick punt from TCU and got the ball back.

McCarthy was very brief in his postgame press conference following the loss to TCU

After comeback hopes fell short and Michigan lost to TCU, 51-45 in the Fiesta Bowl to see the Horned Frogs advance to the National Championship Game, Wolverines quarterback J.J. McCarthy kept it brief with the media. Very brief.

McCarthy walked into the postgame press conference and walked out after taking one question, according to Jordan Strack of WTOL in Toledo. He did, however, issue a promise to Michigan fans.

“We’ll be back. I promise you that,” McCarthy said.

It’s a similar message to the one McCarthy delivered following Michigan’s loss to Georgia in the 2021 Orange Bowl. Though this time it might play differently given his role as the starter — last year it was Cade McNamara at the helm — and his two pick-sixes in the game.
