When Michigan took down Ohio State for the first time in a decade last week, the entire state of Michigan kicked off a party which lasted into the night. However, one fan in Baltimore, Maryland had the most emotional experience.

During his Monday press conference, Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh discussed the emotions he experienced watching his brother Jim Harbaugh lead their hometown school to a rivalry win.

“I have a lot of thoughts,” John Harbaugh said about Jim’s win. “I was emotional man. Watching Jim after the game with his players and how – and just how much that team loves each other – seeing them on the field. And the fans on the field, Jim going through the crowd. Then working with coach (Juwan) Howard and running to coach Howard, who gave Jim a big hug. Jim – you could just tell by the smile – how proud he was. All of it.”

The son of former Michigan defensive back coach Jack Harbaugh could not help himself from landing one final jab at Ohio State in the closing seconds of his answer either.

“It was just really one of those moments that I think everybody had to enjoy that,” said Harbaugh. “Most everybody, except for the Ohio State fans but they’ll get over it.”

Jim Harbaugh on win over Ohio State

Michigan defeated the Buckeyes 42-27 to clinch its spot in the Big Ten Championship Game, where it will face Iowa. Win that game, and a trip to the College Football Playoff is almost assured.

“They were well-prepared and determined,” Harbaugh said. “My favorite saying in the world is ‘Where there’s a will, there’s a way.’ The will was very strong with our team. The way it feels now, it feels like the beginning.”

Nobody, save the most diehard Michigan supporters, could have imagined the Wolverines in this position after they lost to Michigan State. Few gave them a shot against Ohio State, even at home. Yet on the backs of defense and a hard-nosed rushing attack, they have arrived.

Jim Harbaugh earned his first-ever victory against Ohio State as a head coach after being unsuccessful in five previous tries. After entering this year following a 2-4 season, he found himself firmly on the hot seat. It’s safe to say the performance from the team this year has gotten him off of it.

Now he has a chance to lead the Wolverines to their first-ever Playoff appearance and really cement his legacy. That can be achieved with a victory against the Hawkeyes at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday in Indianapolis.
