Minnesota‘s 2025 football recruiting class suffered a setback on Tuesday as three-star Portland (Ore.) Central Catholic offensive tackle Zac Stascausky backed off his pledge to the Golden Gophers.

He previously pledged to P.J. Fleck and Co. in early June after his official visit, at which point Washington was considered the strong favorite to land him. Oregon State, BYU and UCLA were also among the programs in the mix before his first commitment.

However, he visited the Huskies again this past weekend and has now reopened his recruitment following that trip.

“First and foremost, I would like to thank God for blessing me with the opportunity to be committed to the University of Minnesota,” he wrote on Twitter. “I would like to thank the Minnesota coaching staff for welcomIng me with open arms, throughout my recruitment with the Gophers. After countless conversations with family and coaches, I will be decommitting from the University of Minnesota, and will be announcing soon.”

Stascausky is the No. 890 overall prospect in the 2025 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also ranks as the country’s No. 50 offensive tackle and No. 2 recruit in Oregon.

With his decommitment, the Gophers are now down to 22 commitments in the cycle, headlined by four-star quarterback Jackson Kollock. Their class currently sits at No. 52 nationally and No. 16 in the Big Ten in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
