2023 LB Matt Kingsbury commits to Minnesota
Chicago St. Rita linebacker Matt Kingsbury announced his commitment to Minnesota on Sunday. He chose the Golden Gophers following an official visit to Minneapolis this weekend.
Kingsbury is not ranked in the 2023 On3 Consensus or the 2023 On300. He 6-foot-4 and weighs 230 pounds.
The Illinois native chose head coach P.J. Fleck and his staff over an offer from Western Michigan. Following Kingsbury’s announcement, the Golden Gophers have 18 high school commits in their 2023 recruiting class.
Minnesota’s group currently ranks No. 43 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 7 in the Big Ten. It consists of two four-stars, 15 three-stars and one unranked prospect, as well as two transfers.

The Golden Gophers’ highest-ranked commit is Savage (Minn.) Prior Lake four-star interior offensive lineman Greg Johnson, the No. 368 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus. Minnesota also has a pledge from Osseo (Minn.) Osseo Senior four-star interior offensive lineman Jerome Williams.
Kingsbury has an On3 NIL Valuation of $6.1K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
