4-star WR Marquez Dortch commits to Mississippi State

One day after decommitting from Ole Miss, Lucedale (Miss.) George County four-star wide receiver Marquez Dortch announced he was committing to the Rebels’ archrival Mississippi State.
“After a lot of thought and discussions, I have decided that Starkville is (home),” Dortch tweeted.
With his commitment, Dortch becomes the new No. 1 recruit in the Bulldogs 2022 class. He is the No. 201 overall recruit in the country, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average. On3 ranks Hunter as the No. 2 player overall and the top-ranked cornerback and the overall best player in Georgia.
Rockwall (Texas) four-star quarterback Braedyn Locke is the only other four-star prospect in the class. He is the No. 439 recruit in the nation.
Mississippi State now has 18 commits in their recruiting class. There are two other wideouts in the class in Horn Lake (Miss.) three-star Jarnorris Hopson and Poplarville (Miss.) three-star Khalid Moore.

Dortch is the team’s first commitment since Covington (Ga.) Newton three-star cornerback Audavion Collins.
Marquez Dortch is a huge recruiting win for Mississippi State
Marquez Dortch is a top-five player in the state of Mississippi. Anytime the Bulldogs can keep a recruit of that level home is a major win for them.
And to be able to flip the commit from Ole Miss further sweetens the deal.
Mississippi State was ranked No. 35 in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking before Dortch’s commitment. They jumped all the way to No. 30 following the announcment.
One of the teams they jumped: Ole Miss.
