Like many other teams across the country, the Mississippi State Bulldogs had a good season. However, this Selection Sunday, head coach Chris Jans still doesn’t know his team’s fate as it relates to the NCAA Tournament with the Bulldogs sitting firmly on the bubble.

Now, while waiting to learn their fate, Jans revealed his and the team’s plans on Sunday as they wait to learn their fate as a bubble team.

“That’s a good question,” Chris Jans said. “Hopefully the guys are seeing their families, like I mentioned earlier. I got a bunch of folks here, as well, having seen my siblings, my parents for five to ten minutes. They’re in our hotel. They get it. That’s just the way it goes. I’m trying to make some plans personally to see those folks that spent the time and money to come down here and support us.”

Mississippi State finished the season ninth in the SEC standings with an 8-10 conference record and a 21-13 record overall. Then, in the SEC Tournament, the Bulldogs made it to the semifinals before they fell in a tight game against Auburn.

In some of the latest NCAA Tournament projections, Mississippi State was listed as a ‘Last Four Bye’ team, alongside teams like Colorado, Colorado State, and Northwestern.

Now, as Chris Jans explained, the Bulldogs are going to head home to Starkville and wait to learn their fate for this postseason.

“We plan on getting out of here at some point here in the next few hours and getting home, then being able to let this sink in and sleep on it. Hopefully, like I said, get up, go to church, figure out what we’re going to do on Sunday, hopefully get some good news,” Jans said.

“Until I see that, you’re not going to hear me say much about the postseason other than saying the postseason. If you paid attention, I haven’t said anything but the ‘postseason.’ That’s the word that I’ve used. We’ll see what happens and make a game plan.”

This is Chris Jans’ second season at Mississippi State. Last year, with a similar resume, the Bulldogs made it to the First Four of the NCAA Tournament. However, the bubble has been considered very fragile this season, with several teams winning their conference tournaments that would have missed the NCAA Tournament, meaning that there are going to be fewer bids available to bubble teams.
