Chris Jans reveals takeaway from blowout loss vs Tennessee
During Mississippi State’s trip to Tennessee, head coach Chris Jans got a look at how far his Bulldogs team is from the top competition in the SEC. It was an 87-53 blowout that was never particularly close, and now the Bulldogs need to find a way to bounce back from the game.
In his postgame press conference, Jans explained the takeaway that comes from a loss like this.
“Experience teaches you a lot and what we’re gonna learn and grow from it will be later,” Chris Jans said.
“It won’t be in that locker room. It’s a pretty solemn group right now. Not much to be excited about. It’s a tough day for us. Tough night.”
On Saturday, Mississippi State plays rival Ole Miss. It’s a massive game in the state and one that the Bulldogs expect to win. Now, they’ll have to stay focused and regroup ahead of the game.
“Obviously, we’ll get back and we have no choice but to regroup,” Jans explained. “We all know what’s looming on Saturday, and we didn’t even talk about that. We discussed that. We talked about the game in itself, our approach, our mentality, you know, how we need to play, and what our margin of error is or isn’t for that matter.”

Chris Jans on Tennessee’s 16-0 run
Tennessee started the game on a 16-0 run, which caught Chris Jans and Mississippi State completely by surprise.
“I didn’t see a 16-0 run to start the basketball game if that’s what you’re asking me,” Jans said.
“Have a ton of respect for their program, how they play, coaching staff, they’ve got it right where they want it. They’ve got the kind of players that fit their style of play, that fit their culture they’ve created. You can see it on film, certainly we saw it up close and personal the last couple hours.”
