Mississippi State pitcher Colby Holcombe enters NCAA transfer portal
Mississippi State pitcher Colby Holcombe entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.
He spent three years with the program, but will now look elsewhere to continue his college career. In 2024, Holcombe pitched in 12 games.
This past season, Holcombe pitched 21.2 innings, gave up 26 hits, 25 earned runs, issued 12 walks and had 28 strikeouts. He finished with a 1-1 record.

During the 2023 campaign, his sophomore year after playing his freshman season at Northeast Mississippi CC, Holcombe went 2-2. He pitched in 18 games with three starts.
Overall, he pitched 36 innings, gave up 31 hits, 33 earned runs, issued 42 walks and had 49 strikeouts.

As a recruit, Holcombe played four years under Josh Fowler at Florence (Ala.) Central High School. He was named First Team All-Region pitcher in 2021, posting a 1.20 ERA in 62 innings of work.

Colby Holcombe to transfer out of Mississippi State
Holcombe will move on to another school next season and Mississippi State will move on to a new year after making the NCAA Tournament.
The Bulldogs’ season came to an end in the Charlottesville Regional when they lost to Virginia 9-2.
Four Dawgs had a pair of hits in the game, David Mershon, Dakota Jordan, Aaron Downs and Hunter Hines. Jordan hit a two-run home run in the first to give the Bulldogs the only runs of the game. Jordan and Mershon ended the day 2-for-4 at the plate while Downs and Hines went 2-for-3 on the day.
Pico Kohn grabbed the start on the mound and had a career day, punching out eight Cavaliers in seven innings of work. Gavin Black picked up 1 1/3 innings of relief work and sat three Virginia batters. Tyler Davis and Karson Ligon put together 2/3 innings pitched with Ligon striking out one.
