The tragic news of Mike Leach’s passing has landed heavy on a lot of the beloved college football coach’s former players, including guys who had just transferred away from Mississippi State. One player, Dillon Johnson, who had taken a shot at Leach on social media while announcing his decision to transfer, took time today to offer his condolences to the former coach and try to bury any bad blood between them.

Johnson tweeted Tuesday morning: “I know we had our different opinions on things, and I know we didn’t see eye to eye on things but we are family and sometimes familys have disagreements  it’s apart life, I’m Sorry this happened to you Coach Leach I love you bro keep swinging that sword my guy.”

For reference, Johnson entered the Transfer Portal just under a week ago, announcing the news on Twitter. As part of his statement, he also had a not-so-great thing to say about Leach. Here was that message:

“First and foremost, I would like to thank God for giving me the opportunity to showcase my talents at a college level. Without him, I am nothing. Secondly, I would like to thank my family and friends for the endless love and support they have shown me throughout the season. To Mississippi State University, my teammates, trainers, and amazing fans, it has been an honor to participate in this program with you all. Together, you guys helped me build my character and skills tremendously. Since I am not very tough, And Leach is glad I am leaving, I will be entering my name into the Transfer Portal with the hopes of finding a more fit playing environment for me. Thank you. Dillon Johnson.”

Sounds like the end between these two was a bit bitter. However, it’s nice to see Johnson move past whatever disagreements he and Coach Leach may have had to honor a beloved man and coach who just passed away.
